7th district of Paris

The 7th district of Paris is the result of the extension of Paris at the beginning of the 19th century. It is bordered in the South by the {{XVe}} district, in North by the the Seine and the {{XVIe}}, {{VIIIe}}, and {{Ier}} districts, and in the East by the {{VIe}} district. The 7th district is located on the Left bank. It extends from the Rue of the Holy Father to the Avenue of Suffren.

The churches are there Saint-François-Xavier, Saint-Thomas-with Aquin and Saint-Louis of the Invalids to the Hôtel of the Invalids.

It is in this central district, prestigious and easy that is located, Rue of Solférino, the seat of the Socialist party (PS) since 1981. It is in this same street that was also localized formerly there the seat of RPF of the Général de Gaulle.

A prestigious and easy district

District of the easy families of Paris, the 7th district belongs to what one calls the beautiful “districts” of the capital . One finds there the Ministère S, the National Assembly and the Hôtel of the Invalids, the seat of UNESCO and many Ambassade S.

Equipment

Only the Cinéma of the district is the Pagoda, Rue of Babylon, beside the seat of the District council of Ile-de-France. Its architecture and its garden do not miss the picturesque one.

There are two public colleges: the college Victor-Duruy, boulevard of the Invalids, and the college Jules Romans, Street Cler.

There is one public lycée, the Lycée Victor-Duruy.

He counts several private colleges, of which the Lycée Saint-Thomas d' Aquin (Rue of Grenelle), Paul-Claudel (Rue of Grenelle also), of Alma (Avenue Thicket) and Hulst (Rue of Game preserve).

The Institute of political studies of Paris (Science-Po Paris) seat Street Saint-Guillaume, opposite the Institute of compared right.

The principal elementary schools are street Eblé, Avenue Duquesne, street Chomel, street Vaneau, street of the Camou general and Rue Mow Boxes. The School Holy-Jeanne Elisabeth, private catholic, streets of Sevres and Maurice of Sizeranne, go from the nursery school to the final one.

The school Rochefoucauld, deprived, Street Saint-Dominique, goes from the sixth to the final one. A considerable number pupils of the district also moves towards the college and the college Stanislas, private Catholique, Rue Our-Lady-of-Fields, in the VI {{E}} district.

The market of Breteuil, Which occurred of Saxony, is held Thursdays and Saturdays.

Habitat

The law Solidarity and urban renewal imposing a minimal threshold of social housing for the cities (Paris counts 14% of social housing), old the Hôpital Laënnec, located Rue of Sevres, should be reconverted in garden and residences. It is envisaged to build there in its enclosure of the residences with moderated rent, of the student residences, a garden and trade. The historical buildings as the vault nevertheless will be preserved.

Policy

The mayor and the council of district

Edouard Frederic-Dupont was the emblematic figure of the district during more than one half-century. Elected official Appointed as of 1936, he was then the deputy of the Libération until in 1993, and the mayor until his death in 1995.

Martine Aurillac (RPR), its first associated and appointed since 1993, succeeded to him the post of mayor in 1995 before leaving the place to Michel Dumont in June 2002, following its re-election of deputy (UMP) in the 3rd district of Paris.

Sit at the Council of district Jean-Philippe Hubin, Anne Kalck and Maggie Cazal, chief candidate of the Greens to the first turn in 2001, which amalgamated with the socialist list with the second.

National elected officials

With the legislative elections of March 1993 in the 3rd district of Paris, which includes/understands 7th and the northern half of 6th, Michel Roussin (RPR) was elected as of the first turn succeeding Edouard Frederic-Dupont. Named just after Minister for the Co-operation of the government of Edouard Balladur, Roussin was replaced by Mrs Aurillac, the temporary candidate. She is re-elected, like candidate " titulaire" , with the anticipated legislative elections of 1997 and the general elections of 2002 against Anne Kalck (socialist), Yves Pozzo Di Borgo, today senator UDF, and Christian Blanc, today appointed related UDF of the Yvelines.

At the time of the legislative elections of June 2007, Martine Aurillac (UMP) is elected as of the first turn with 59% of the voices.

Since September 2004, among the senators of Paris, only Yves Pozzo Di Borgo, UDF, is elected 7th.

Elections

With legislative as with the local elections, the line obtains between 70 and 80  % of the voices (83  % as of the first turn of the local elections in 1983). The left seldom exceeds the 25  % of the votes.

On the right, since about fifteen years, there is generally a dissenting list. In 1997, Jean-Philippe Hubin is presented under the banner of the MPF, figure with European of 1999 on the list UDF of Francois Bayrou, and is chief candidate tiberist to the two turns of the municipal elections of 2001. Its presence with the second turn contributes to the election for the first time at the Council of Paris under 7th of the socialist chief candidate, Anne Kalck.

At the referendum relating to the bearing Treaty Constitution for Europe, yes arrived at the head in 7th at 80,5  %.

At the time of the first turn of the presidential election of 2007, Nicolas Sarkozy arrived largely at the head of the candidates with 55,98% of the voices in front of Francois Bayrou (20,35%), Ségolène Royal (15,35%) and Jean-Marie Le Pen (4,37%). To the second turn, Nicolas Sarkozy obtained 74,75% of the voices compared with 25,25% with his socialist adversary.

Demography

With the census of 1999, one counted a population of: 56985 inhabitants out of 409 hectares, is an average density of: 13933 hab/km ².
