September 24th - October 13rd: to Nicée, in the Byzantine Empire, the second council of Nicée (VIIe ecumenical council) joined together by Irene condemns the Iconoclasme. It regulates the discipline of the clerks, the monks and the laic ones.
- Charlemagne does not recognize all the clauses of the council of Nicée and load of the theologists (of which probably Théodulf of Orleans) to compose a series of treaties ( Libri Carolini ) against the council. It sends an ambassador to Rome charged to present to the pope 85 remonstrances.
- the Libri Carolini affirm that it is indeed an error to destroy the icons, but that it is also to impose their veneration.
- October 3rd: Tassilon III of Bavaria renews its oath of fidelity to Charlemagne in Lechfeld, close to Augsburg.
- Tassilon III, duke of Bavaria, sends an embassy to the pope to request it to exert a mediation near Charlemagne, then with Rome. Adrien answers him that having sworn fidelity with Charles, it must obey to him without discussing, under penalty of excommunication. The king of the Francs, returned at his place, nap Tassilon to present itself immediately in front of him.
