7,65 mm Parabellum

The 7,65 mm Parabellum is known under the denomination .30 Luger in the USA. This cartridge was designed by Georg Luger in order to be used in the weapon which it had just finalized: the Luger Parabellum. If Luger is directly derived from the gun Borchardt, the same applies with its ammunition. It is about a shorter version (21 mm instead of 25 mm) and less powerful of the 7,65 mm Borchardt. This least power is justified by a less heavy mechanism to implement. Definitely less powerful than of other contemporary ammunition, such as the 7.63 Mauser, the 7,65 Parabellum will be supplanted a few years later by the advent of most famous of the cartridges of handgun: the 9 mm Parabellum. The career of this ammunition will continue nevertheless because of its adoption by the armies of Switzerland, of Bulgaria, of Brazil and Portugal. Although being always manufactured, it is a question in the species of a ammunition on the way of becoming obsolete. It is also known under metric name “7,65 X 21 mm”
