Until the First World War

  • March 1st, 1890: creation, with Brest, of the 6th Regiment of Marines , by unfolding of the 2 {{E}} Regiment of Marines

  • 1900: the name of 5th Regiment of Colonial Infantry takes
  • 1914: quartering in Lyon; 2nd colonial brigade; {{1st}} colonial division

The Inter-war period

The Second world war

1939: quartering: EM with Dreux, companies with Saint Denis de Moronval (become Holy-Gem-Moronval in 1955) and Cherisy (Eure-et-Loir). With the mobilization, joined the border allemande.
Attached to the 6th DIC (Division of Colonial Infantry) in the 3rd Army.

September 1939: enter on the German territory within the framework of the Offensive of the Saar.

at the end of April: the regiment becomes the 6th RICMS (Regiment of Senegalese Mixed Colonial Infantry). With share the executives, Europeans leave the regiment which receives reinforcements of " Sénégalais" (generic term used for a native of Africa).

mid-May: the 6th DIC is attached to the 2nd army, in the Ardennes

17 May 19th: the 6th DIC, including the 6th RICMS, raises the 2nd DLC in the sector Stonne - Beaumont-in-Argonne - Sommauthe (approximately 20 km in the south of Sedan).

Savage defense of the sector (123 died for the 6th RICMS)

May 26th: the 6th DI raises the 6th DIC

During the general retirement of June, the 6th RICMS continues to fight:

  • on June 13rd: destruction of sound 1e Bataillon
  • on June 14th: resumption of Bournonville (approximately 12 km in the south of Holy-Menehould, the Marne) to the bayonet by 10th and 11th companies
  • the 19 June 20th: battle around Barisey-with-Lime pit (approx. 16 km in the south of Toul, Meurthe-et-Moselle)
