6th district of Paris
The 6th district of Paris is located at the center of the city, on the left bank of the the Seine.
Geography
One finds there in particular the district tourist of Saint-Germain-of-Meadows and the Jardin of Luxembourg, in which the Sénat is. If 6th concentrates a little less universities than the 5th neighbor, it joins together prestigious cultural institutions such as the Institut of France, the Théâtre of Odéon or the École of the Art schools. However it is initially an easy residential district, expensive of the capital for the price of the real estate to the square meter.
It is bordered in the West by the 7 {{E}} district, in North by The Seine and the 1 {{er}} district, in the South by the 14 {{E}} district and 15 {{E}} district, and in the East by the 5 {{E}} district.
The first dwellings at the edge of the Seine date from the Roman epoch, but the district extended to the South only as from the 19th century.
Policy
Jean-Pierre Lecoq is mayor of this district since June 1995, currently in the municipal opposition in the majority led by Bertrand Delanoë. He was re-elected mayor of district in March 2001. At the first turn, with 26,96%, its dissenting list arrived second behind that led by the Socialist Alain Morell (28,72%). It was however in front of the two other lists of right-hand side which clashed and which supported respectively Philippe Seguin and Jean Tiberi at the post of mayor of Paris. None of both had proposed to him to follow one another itself the head of the district, it is what led it to carry out its own list. With the second round, the list led by Jean-Pierre Lecoq carried it with 57,84% of the votes, against 42,16% with the socialist list. The 6th district is divided into two legislative districts: the southern part constitutes, with 5th, the 2 {{E}} district, where is elected appointed Jean Tiberi, mayor of 5th and former mayor of Paris; the northern part constitutes with 7th, the 3 {{E}} district, whose deputy is Mrs. Martine Aurillac, since 1993. Mr. Lecoq, mayor of 6th, were presented in the form of a temporary candidate of the latter to legislative of 1997 and 2002.
The score of more than 61% realized by Nicolas Sarkozy with the 2nd turn of the presidential election represents anchoring on the right this district.
For the municipal elections of the March 9th and 16th 2008 however, the plays appear very open. The first candidate declared in the district is Romain Levy, secretary of the section PS of the 6th district, indicated by an internal vote organized on October 18th, 2007.
