Events

  • 26 or July 28th: Battle of Siffin in Iraq on the Euphrate between the partisans of Ali and his adversaries joined together around Mu' awiyya ibn abi sufyane governor of Damas and close to Uthman, the precedent Caliph assassinated. It is the first scission of the political and religious community of the Islam. Ali is victorious when its adversaries hang sheets of Coran to their lances to require a truce and an arbitration. Some of the partisans of Ali, reproaching him for having called into question its legitimacy which Allah by the fate of the weapons granted to him, made secession and became the Kharidjites. Ali qualified them heretics and of hétérodoxes.

  • November 27th: Beginning of the reign of Clotaire III, king of Neustrie and Burgundy (fine in 670).
    • Regency of Bathilde (657-665). The abbot Genoa, Holy Ouen and Saint Leger are the advisers of Bathilde which prohibits the sale of Christian slaves and which makes repurchase those which were it.

    • Ébroïn becomes mayor of the palate of the frank Royaume of Neustrie.

  • Revolt of the Western Turks, repressed by the Chinese general Penny Ting-fang.
  • Beginning of the reign of Parameshvara-varman, king of the Pallava of Kanchi (India).
  • the Châlukya Vikramaditya contains the dynasties of the south and takes Kanchi, the capital of the Pallava.
  • the Indian Mathématicien Brahmagupta fixes the rules of calculation with the Zero.
