France 5 is a French Television channel of public service, with cultural and educational vocation.

History of the chain

The Fifth

January 13rd, 1994, the government of Edouard Balladur creates the Fifth. Little time after, as a new chain of the public service, the Fifth launches out a new challenge; adaper with new technologies. In 1995, it is one of the first French chains to create its Web site and as from 1997, Fifth is diffused 6:00 at midnight uninterrupted on channel 45 of CanalSatellite, and channel 5 of TPS. August 10th, 1999, the Fifth makes its entry to a total value of 25% in the capital of the French-speaking international chain TV5, with the favor of a redistribution of the capital held by the French state enterprises.

Integration in France Televisions

May 27th 1999, the National Assembly adopts in first reading the bill on the audio-visual one presented by Catherine Trautmann which envisages to gather the public channels in holding. The August 2nd 2000, Fifth is integrated into the group France Television and its new renewed grid with 80% is presented on August 27th 2001 to the Gabriel House. ( the Nursery schools , and C in the air make their appearance). January 7th, 2002 The Fifth exchange of preparing with all the chains of the group France Televisions.
