5th regiment of infantry of line
The 5th Regiment of Infantry of Line is one of the oldest French regiments, and most famous of the French Army: created under the Old Mode (in 1558), it is distinguished in particular during the countryside from Italy. It is also the first regiment to be joined with Napoleon at the time of the Hundred Days. It is dissolved since 1997.

Its origin comes from a verbal exchange between the chaplain from the regiment and an officer hessois receiving the last sacraments whereas its regiment was destroyed " with the bayonet " by Navarre with the combat of Speyerbach, in 1703.

End-of-life of the Regiment
5th IH was dissolved on July 1st, 1997 and its flag was transferred with the Hôtel of the Invalids, with the museum of the Army. Its companies were distributed between the 16th battalion of hunters, the 110 {{E}} IH (mechanized companies), RMT ( R égiment of M arch of the T chad, company anti-tank device located at Noyon in Oise (60)).
