Chronology

Creation

  • This regiment is created with Cherbourg on March 1st 1890, by unfolding of the 1 {{er}} RIC, under the name of ''' 5 {{E}} Régiment of Colonial Infantry '''.
  • He is also heir to the 5 {{E}} Régiment of Colonial Infantry Mixed Senegalese which fought during the Campagne of France in 1940.
  • He is also guard of the standard 6 {{E}} regiment of marine artillery since 1980, which took part by elements in various operations in Africa and the two world wars.

Traditions

  • It is celebrated at the time of the birthday of the combat of BAZEILLES. This village which was 4 times taken again and gave up on orders, the August 31st and on September 1st, 1870.

Feat of arms notorious of the Second world war, then War of Indo-China

  • It takes share in the countryside of France on May 17th, 1940, on June 23rd it receives the military honors of the enemy;
  • 1945-1946 in Indo-China it receives its fourth mention in dispatches before being dissolves on June 30th, 1946;
  • In 1947, the 5th BPIC receives the guard of the flag of the 5 {{E}} regiment of colonial infantry ;
  • In 1955 it receives the Military Cross of the TOE with a palm, plus two national orders received by the king of the Laos.

Since the Second world war

  • Since November 1st, 1969 it takes its garrison with Djibouti on the territory of Affars and Issas.
