519e regiment of the train

In France, only one Régiment of the Army is specialized in the maritime transshipment: it is about the 519e regiment of the train (519e RT) stationed to La Rochelle.

The currency of the regiment is: " Skilful and rigorous on ground as on sea ".

History

519e RT is resulting from the units of amphibians transport used during the Guerre of Indo-China.

Missions

The mission of 519e RT consists in carrying out the operations of maritime transshipment on chartered ships. It acts with the loading or unloading of the vehicles and the materials of the forces projected starting from ships out of quay or with roads. In this last case, it uses its average amphibians. It also intervenes in metropolis starting from the ports and on the theaters of operations (Ivory Coast, Kosovo, Bosnia). Permanently, with the personnel of the amphibious squadron reinforces units in Guyana, in Gabon and Senegal. The aptitude of the regiment to evolve/move in the zones lagunaires and river, makes of it an actor privileged for the help of the populations in flooded zones.
