Events

  • July 20th: Beginning of the Pontificate of holy Hormisdas (fine in 523).

  • Vitalien is victorious in front of Constantinople.
    • Vitalien, which ordered the imperial troops of Thrace, had declared defender of the Concile of Chalcédoine. In 513 it devastates the country to the walls of Constantinople, then imposes on the emperor Anastase the promise to put an end to the schism monophysite.
    • This episode lies within the scope of the quarrel monophysite, Anastase had pursued the policy of Zénon by being held with the positions defended by Hénotique, legislative act prohibiting that the divergences relating to the nature of the Christ were evoked, but Anastase did not support of them less the monophysites, which had caused the resistance of the chalcédoniens and the rising of Vitalien.
    • As of July 518, Justin will repeal Hénotique, will restore the relations with Rome, will order with all the bishops to recognize the guns of Chalcédoine and will exclude the monophysites from all the civil and military functions.
