50 goals in 50 matches
50 goals in 50 matches indicates the fact of marking 50 goals in the first 50 parts the one season of the National league of hockey. To mark fifty goals in 50 matches (or less) in the LNH is an exploit which is regarded as the mark of the large strikers.
By comparison, the best marker of the season 2005-06, Jonathan Cheechoo marked 56 goals (for 82 parts) and in the season 2003-04 the best striker marked only 41 goals. However, the years of the Second world war and years 1980 were most prolific of the history of the LNH.
The LNH defines officially the “50 goals in 50 parts”: A player must register them during the first 50 parts of his team. Some think that one should count only the first 50 matches of the player, the difference being due to the wounds.
According to the official definition of the LNH, this exploit 8 times by 5 various players were carried out. By considering the 50 parts of a player, they were 8 to make a success of it on the whole 13 times.
Maurice Rocket Richard
- 1944-45 : 50 in 50 matches (50 in 50)
Some, however, noted that the LNH had lost good players who were useful in the armed forces during the second world war. Richard never marked again 50 goals in one season.
Mike Bossy
- 1980-81 : 50 in 50 matches (50 in 50)
Wayne Gretzky
- 1981-82 : 61 in 50 matches (50 in 39)
- 1983-84: 61 in 50 matches (50 in 42)
- 1984-85: 53 in 50 matches (50 in 49)
Gretzky still makes a success of the exploit of 50 goals in 50 matches two other times. During the season 1983-84, it marked its 50e goal with its 42e match and at the time of the season 1984-85 it registered its 50e goal during its 49e match.
Mario Lemieux
- 1988-89 : 54 in 50 matches (50 in 46)
Brett Hull
- 1990-91 : 52 in 50 matches (50 in 49)
- 1991-92: 50 in 50 matches (50 in 50)
The second time was during the following season (1991-92). The January 28th 1992, Hull marked its 50e goal against the guard veteran Kelly Hrudey during the 50e match answering a goal of Gretzky, at the time of a tie 3-3. It was the last time that this exploit was carried out to date (April 2007).
