5-alpha réductase

the 5-alpha réductase (steroid 5-alpha réductase - EC. 1.3.99) is a Enzyme which reduces the Δ4,5 connection of the Testostérone with production of the Dihydrotestostérone (androstanolone) which is also a Hormone androgen. It is a metabolite biologically active, formed primairement in the Prostate, the Testicules, the capillary follicules and the Glande suprarenal.

The enzyme has two Isozymes: the steroid 5-alpha réductase 1 and 2 (SRD5A1 and SRD5A2).

The activity of the enzyme during pleasing puberty with an excessive production of sebum (séborée), hormonal origin and which confers an aspect shining on the skin, leading to the Acné.

The Finastéride is an agent which blocks the peripheral conversion of the Testostérone in 5-hydroxytestostérone.
