5,45x39 mm M74
It is about a ammunition brought into service in 1974, composed of a warhead 5,45 mm assembled on a case of 39,5mm. Gauge standard “news and last Soviet ammunition” , charged to succeed the 7,62 mm M43 and which one names also 5,45 M74.
History
Having noted the effects of the American ammunition of 5,56 mm during the War of Vietnam, the Soviets created in their turn, a ammunition of small gauge, the 5,45 M74. The rifle of attack AK-74 was created for this cartridge. It was used for the first time by the Red Army during the Guerre with Afghanistan.
