In 1990, the director of information and programs, Hugues Durocher, created new a Tv news - magazine diffused each evening with 19:00 to succeed RTL-SOIR of Genevieve Guicheney, which mixes local information, national, international and interviews.

In order to sit the notoriety of this new newspaper televise-magazine, Hugues Durocher convainct Marylène Bergmann, historical figure of the chain, to pass from animation to journalism and to ensure the presentation of it.

Special editions of the 40 Minutes take place during the war of the Gulf in 1991 since the base of Al Ahsa in Saudi Arabia and since New York in November 1992, at the time of the American presidential elections.

Initially diffused at the same time on the antennas hertzian and satellite of the chain, the 40 minutes is more accessible only on RTL9 Lorraine since 1995 and becomes a purely regional newspaper of topicality then, renamed the 40 minutes in Lorraine .
