405 lines
The 405 lines is a standard of Télévision which was officially adopted by BBC in February 1937 at the conclusion in 1936 of the bringing together between the companies EMI and Marconi.
Après the war of 1939-1945, whereas other countries, the such France or the Germany were directed towards higher definitions, the 405 lines British was renewed definitively and only in 1983 was abandoned after the completion of the new networks of BBC1 and ITV in 625 lines UHF colors STAKE, initiated as of 1969. Not very greedy as a waveband, this standard allowed the diffusion of two domestic networks in the band VHF where the other countries, in 625 lines or 819 lines could exploit one of them.
La Irish Republic also adopted this standard for the launching of its first chain, RTE (Radio operator Telefis Eireann]] with beginning of the year 50.
