  • First mention of the Khitan by the Chinese chronicles in 405 - 406. They nomadisent on the edges of Kara-muren, and belong to the confederation Donghu (Tong-hou).

Europe

  • Stilicon, appointed consul, is charged to defend the Italy invaded by an army of German (Burgondes, Suèves, Vandales), of Slaves (Alains) and of Celtes led by the German chief Radagaise. Florence is besieged (405 - 406). Stilicon must require the assistance of the chief hun Uldin, promising money and spoils to him.

    • Stilicon has only 30  000 men to beat Radagaise. To save Italy, it had to dismantle the provinces, which will involve the evacuation of the Brittany (410) and the weakening of the Rhenish border, which will make possible the rush of 406.
