400 m hedges
The 400 m hedges is a speed race during which the competitors must cross ten hedges out of metal and wooden (or out of metal and plastic).
For the 400 m male, the hedges measure 91 cm height (and 84 cm up to 17-18 years). The first hedge is with 45m starting line and the following to 35 m from/to each other. The last is to 40 m of the finishing line.
An important technical element is the number of treads between the obstacles. Only a score of the athletes among the best world ones pass in 13 treads. The others pass in 15 treads, to see more with each interval. The large French specialists are Jean-Claude Nallet and more recently Stephan Diagana.
For the women the height of the hedges is of 76 cm.
The male world records were carried out at the time of the Olympic Games of summer of 1992 with Barcelona by Kevin Young with a time of 46" 78 and the female world records are the work of Russian Yuliya Pechonkina who has ran in 52" 34 in 2003
