3rd regiment of marines

The 3rd regiment of infantry marinades is a unit of the French Army. It is one of the oldest regiments of the Troupes of navy, with the 1 {{er}}, 2 {{E}} regiment of marines as well as the 4 {{E}} (dissolved in 1998), then their brother in arms the 1 {{er}} regiment of marine artillery which represents famous the blue division.

Heraldic

History

It took an active part in remote forwardings of last century in Africa, in America, Oceania and the East. 3rd of Navy enorgueillit to have belonged to famous “the Blue Division” which was illustrated with the Bataille of Bazeilles the August 31st and September 1st, 1870.

Currency of the 3rd regiment of marine infantry

" Upright Deaths ". This sentence, become the currency of the regiment, is lent to the adjudant PÉRICARD (3rd RIC) who would have pronounced it on February 27th, 1915, to stimulate its troops, during the resumption of the fort of Beauséjour (This fierce combat and finally victorious cost I ° and 2° battalions of the 3rd RIC: 189 killed, 575 wounded and 250 missings).

It is decorated with the Military Cross 1914-1918 with 1 palm and 1 star, with the Serb medal commemorative and the Military Cross 1939-1945 with 1 palm. The 3rd RIMA was quoted with the order of the army in 1978, then in 1991.

History

Until the First World War

  • 1854 : 3rd regiment of marines , stationed with Rochefort
  • 1869 : The 3rd regiment of marines east distributes between Rochefort, the Cochinchine, the Meeting, the New Caledonia and Tahiti
  • 1890 (March 1st): the regiment is duplicated and it gives rise to the ''' 7 {{E}} regiment of marines '''
  • 1900 : the name of 3rd regiment of colonial infantry takes , it does not lay out any more companies or battalions in the colonies
  • 1914 : always quartered in Rochefort, it belongs to the 3rd colonial brigade; 3 {{E}} division of colonial infantry

The First World War

It was also illustrated during the Great War, with the battles of Nightingale, in the Marne, and in Beauséjour before being committed on the face of the East until June 1919.

  • 16 February 23rd: Champagne: Fort of Beauséjour
  • May 15th: City on Peat
  • September 25th: Battle of Champagne: Hand-with-Massiges, Coast 191, Wood of the Ear

1916

  • February 26th towards 15:00: More half of the regiment (5 companies) perishes at sea, after the torpedoing of the Provence 2, bound for Salonique

1917

Armed with the East
  • April-May: Attacks of the loop of Encircled

1918

  • Serbia: Sokol, Dobropolje, Kravitza. Action which aims at cutting into two the Bulgarian army in the valley of Dobropolje then to exploit this opening towards Prilep and the valley of Strumitza. Massive attack of the 3rd RIC which has surprised the enemy in all the strong points of the ground, Mention in dispatches. During these 5 years of war, the 3rd} lost 4  750 men.

The Inter-war period

The Second world war

  • 1919-1939 : garrison with Rochefort,
  • 1939-1940 Funny of war: Engagements in the area of Bouzanville and Beaumont-in-Argonne. Within the 21e body, movement in the north of the Meuse to intercept the enemy. Thus 1870-1914 3rd are for the third time in the same area and against the same enemy for hard combat. At the conclusion, it protects the retirement from 1e DIC on the Saulx. During these engagements 3rd lost 500 men. The 3rd RIC is quoted with the order of the army.
  • 1940: according to the conditions of the armistice the 3rd RIC is dissolved.
  • 1944: Battalions formed starting from maquis of south-west which will give rise to the 3rd RIC. Actions against the German army in the Dordogne. Occupation of Bergerac and entered Bordeaux driving back 2  000 German soldiers. Its units take part in the operations of North Africa.

After Second world war

  • March 1st 1963: It was reconstituted with Vannes.

  • 1978: ATI
  • 1991 fights: Participation in the war of the Gulf within the Division Daguet
  • 1995: 3rd RIMa is illustrated in the resumption of the post office Sierra Victor located at the accesses of the bridge of Vrbanja (Verbania). This action made it possible to leave the position " passive" blue helmets because it was the first time that those counteracted hostile actions. Alas, 2 men were killed during this operations as 17 others were wounded.

3rd of Navy was also spread with the Sudan, Rwanda, Central African Republic, Albania

Based today with Valves in the Morbihan (56), the regiment has two other sites for the drive and the formation of the porpoises : the fort of Penthièvre located on the peninsula of Quiberon and the Bourguoin barracks in the forest of Meucon. Moreover, 3rd of navy was the first entirely professionnalized regiment. Currently it is partially deployed in Ivory Coast. It belongs to the 9 {{E}} BLBMa.
