3rd regiment of dragons

The 3rd regiment of dragon S (or 3rd RD) is a unit of Cavalerie of the French Army , creates under the Ancien Mode, in 1649.

This regiment can be claimed of a double filiation :

  • 1649 : Regiment of cavalry raised by commission of January 17th, 1649 for the duke of Enghien, wire of the large Cop

  • 1686 : Regiment of cavalry of Bumblebee
  • 1776 : Transformed into regiment of dragons under the name of Bourbon-Dragons
  • 1791 : 3rd regiment of dragons
  • 1811 : Transformed into 2 {{E}} regiment of chevau-light-lancers
  • 1816 : Regiment of dragons of the Garonne (n°3)
  • 1825 : 3rd regiment of dragons
  • 1929 : Dissolved and recreated with the elements of the 3 {{E}} group of hunters cyclists (3rd cd.) and of the 3rd dragons under the name of 3rd battalion of dragons carried
  • 1939 : 3rd regiment of dragons carried
  • 1942 : dissolved
  • 1944 : 3rd regiment of dragons
  • 1945 : dissolved
  • 1976 : the 5 {{E}} Régiment of hussards is transformed into 3rd regiment of dragons
