3rd district of Paris
The 3rd district of Paris is the result of the extension of the capital to, enclosure of Charles {{V}} (1371 - 1380). The oldest buildings date today from the 18th century. This district is a rather residential district, including one great part is in the Marsh. The 3rd district is one of the most expensive districts and most required of Paris. Much from known artists, people and abroad settles there to enjoy on the smart and commercial residential side of this district. Indeed, for some time of many marks of Luxe settle in these historical quarters of Paris. It becomes the district " with the mode" par excellence of Paris.
Buildings
The principal buildings are the Public records today, the Conservatoire National of Arts and Métiers (CNAM), the Musée Picasso, the Square of the Temple. One also finds with the 51 Rue of Montmorency the House of Nicolas Flamel, built in 1407, which would be the oldest house of Paris (its first owner, sworn University, claimed to have the philosopher stone). Lastly, the 3rd district is with the edge of famous the Center Beaubourg or Center Pompidou (of which the complete name is National center of art and culture Georges-Pompidou), which explains the development in this district of many interesting art galleries.
The district counts also many public gardens like the Garden of the Hôtel Salted (see Musée Picasso) or the garden Saint-Gilles Large Huntsman
A required and easy district
Middle-class man-Bohemian district of the par excellence, IIIe belongs to the sectors that one calls " beautiful the quartiers" from Paris. One finds there beautiful buildings and many private mansions, the such Hotel of Montmorency, the Hotel of Marle or the Hotel of Albret. From the XVIIe century, IIIe and IVe district are inhabited by the nobility (ex: Madam de Sévigné, from where the name of current the Street of Sévigné which passes in the two districts). Certain streets like the Street of Brittany, the Street of Montmorency, the street Charlot or the Rue of Directs are particularly required.
Demography
With the census of 1999, the population was of: 34248 inhabitants for 117 hectares, is an average density of: 29272 hab/km ². The district accounts for 1,6% of the Parisian population.
Note: The maximum population of the 3er district was actually reached before 1861.
Cependant, the district having been created in 1860, one does not have reliable data before this date. One distinguishes a constant fall from the number of inhabitants in this arrondissement.
