3 Mustaphas 3

The 3 Mustaphas 3 were a group of Musique of the British world . Formed in 1986 by the uncle Patrel Mustapha and his " neveu" Hijaz, the group was composed in fact of all the " neveux" Mustapha and, although claiming to be originating in the Balkans, played of the music of all the continents. After the exit of some albums and several rounds, the group is remained inactive since the middle of the Nineties without however to have been officially dissolved.

Biography

To believe of it the official version which one finds in the booklets of the albums, Mustaphas would be originating in Szegerely, Balkan small village where they occurred each evening with the club of Crazy Loquat, before being dispatched towards the United Kingdom in refrigerators.

It would seem in fact that the origins of the group go up in 1982 with London, when Lu Edmonds, " the Uncle Patrel" , and the musicologist Ben Mandelson, or " Hijaz Mustapha" , met and started to play together, quickly joined by others " neveux": Houzam, Isfa' ani, Oussack and Niaveti III. Before the term and the style " Music of the world " does not make its appearance, Mustaphaeoaos played already of the music coming from the four corners of planet.

The 3 Mustaphas 3 were formed officially in 1986, whereas they recorded their first album, Shopping ( Magasinage ), which will leave in 1987. Several styles côtoient in this album which however is more influenced by the Egyptian Film music , which contains besides a resumption of Shouffi Rhirou , of the Moroccan singer Najat Aâtabou. The year marked also the departure of Oussack as well as the arrival of the bass player Sabah Habas Mustapha, who will form with Hijaz and Patrel the core of the group.

Their second album, Heart off Uncle ( Heart of the Uncle ), left in 1989 and one finds there influences of the the Middle East, the Mediterranean, of Ireland and South America. But it is with Soup off the Century ( Soupe of the Century ), left in 1990, which they will know their greater success. The styles are more mixed there, as attest it the presence of a piece Country sung in Japanese and of a traditional song Mexican sung in Hindi. With also from the Irish parts , Scottish, Greek, Albanian and Klezmer S, Mustaphas had been freed from all the borders which could separate the traditional styles.

The end was close nevertheless for the group, which did not have financial means the adequate ones to go much further. A last album studio, Friends, Fiends & Fronds, will leave in 1991, but it contains mainly remix preceding albums. In 1992 Mustaphas had ceased playing together. The majority of them continued to work in the field of the music. Sabas Habas continues a career solo noticed into powerful of the traditional music of Indonesia and, with Hijaz, became also music producer of the world.

Two albums in concert nevertheless were born since, in 1997 and 2001, the last one containing performances with the radio and in spectacle gathered by Hijaz and Sabah Habas.
