3G
The third generation (3G) indicates, as one sees it in the table below a standard of technologies of Mobile telephony. Accessible to the general public in certain countries from Europe since 2002 (in Norway, Austria, Romania, then in France and others), it is based on the standard Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), allowing flows much faster (2M bps envisaged with maturity of the network) that with the former generation, GSM.
The first general public applications of the 3G are the Visiophonie and the visionnage of audio-visual signal.
