3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of industrial engineering

The 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of Industrial engineering (ENSGI), was created in 1990 under the impulse of the Institut National Polytechnique of Grenoble (INPG), of the University Pierre Mendès France (UPMF) and of the Club of the Industrialists (together of active industrial partners). The interdisciplinarity appeared in this step vis-a-vis the increasing complexity of the problems arising with the companies.

The introduction of sociology into a formation ensured by INPG characterized by its hard sciences and his close connection realities of the production, is the manifest sign that the spirits evolve/move, that the things move and that the barriers are erased to concentrate on a common objective, the industrial production, and to apprehend it under all its facets. This union between engineerings and social sciences which could at one time appear against-nature completely, is recognized today like a marriage of convenience. The project, lengthily matured, from now on is fixed.

As of the development of the project of a new formation in Industrial engineering, Armand Frémont, Vice-chancellor of the Academy of Grenoble, Georges Lespinard, President of the I.N.P of Grenoble and Jean Vaujany, Chairman and managing director of Merlin Gerin, decided to create this school within the framework of a strong partnership with industrial environments. Thus was born the idea from a Club of Industrialists partners of the school.

Very quickly the club was organized around a founder group of five partners:

Merlin Gerin - Lyons of Bank - Hewlett-Packard - Bull - Renault

Since, Caterpillar also joined the Club of the Industrialists of the ENSGI.

Comprehensive approach of the industrial performance

With the control of three fields: engineerings, economic scenes and of management, and the social sciences, the engineer in Industrial engineering apprehends the line of business in his globality. Its perception of the industrial systems, mixing the technical object and the organization, enables him to control the production equipments and to have an integrated vision of the problems of the company. It can look at, listen and perceive differently.

The ENSGI brings the comprehension of concrete industrial situations, the project control to develop an comprehensive approach of the performance in the following fields:

  • design, implemented and improvement of the industrial process;

  • design and manufacture of the products;
  • control and management of the industrial processes in a competing environment
  • installation of industrial information systems while developing:
    • of qualities of communication, synthesis, and creativity, the direction of the organization, the aptitude to carry out projects in an international environment and multicultural,
    • control of the bonds between the production and other fields of the company (design, the organization, purchases, marketing, approach by the costs, profitability, analyzes financial and strategic).

During the year the 2002-2003 ENSGI accommodates 258 pupils - engineers for which it is necessary to add 48 foreign students.
