3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of geology
The 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of geology of Nancy (ENSG) , member of INPL, the shape of the engineers geologists who work primarily in the fields of water, the environment, the natural resources and energy, geotechnics and research.
The ENSG trains gifted engineers of a capacity of observation adapted to the complexity of the Earth, as of an analytical mind making it possible to include/understand, conceptualize and model.
It is this combination of the approach naturalist and the engineerings which make ENSG a school unique in France since its creation in 1908.
Outlets
While leaving the ENSG, one can work in the sectors:
- water,
- environment,
- civil construction (roads, bridges, tunnels…),
- oil,
- mines (gold, diamond, uranium…),
- numerical geology (modeling of the basement, oil tanks and aquifers…),
- research (volcanology, climatology or paleoclimatology, geochemistry: work on comets, the asteroids, the formation of the Earth and the solar system…)
Recruitment
The pupils of the ENSG come mainly from the Preparatory classes at the Universities (Bac+2) Physical Biology Chemistry Science of Earth (BCPST) via the contest Géologie Water and Environment (G2E). They also come from the CPGE Physical Mathématiques (MP), Physiques Chemistry (PC) and Physical Engineerings (PSI) via the Polytechnic Common Contest (CCP).
Teaching
Exempted teaching is divided into modules of 24:00 each one (cours+TD). Many training courses or " schools of terrain" supplement the formation because it is advisable to train not only engineers but also geologists of ground. There is also in second and third year of the obligatory training courses in one respective duration old companies of 2 and 6 months.
Professors
The professors of the school are teacher-researchers who work in particular:
-
at the Research center in Petrography and Geochemistry, which recently highlighted the possibility of carbonate formation in liquid absence of water,
-
at the Laboratory Environment, Géomechanics and Works,
-
at the Laboratory Computer graphics and Data analysis, whose tool headlight, the numerical software of modeling GOCAD is used in the whole world and was designed by Jean-Laurent Mallet, professor of the ENSG until 2006,
-
at the laboratory Geology and Management of the Mineral resources and Energy,
-
at the Laboratory Environment and Minéralurgie, which studies in particular the formation of the great metal seams…
International exchanges and double diplomas
Thanks to agreements, the pupils of the ENSG can also obtain a diploma in other schools of engineers:
- the EOST (School and Observatory of Sciences of the Earth of Strasbourg),
-
the ENTPE (National school of Public works of the State, Vellum Vaulx),
-
the ENSPM (3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of Oil and the Engines, French Petroleum Institute, Rueil-Malmaison)
-
the EPM (Polytechnic school of Montreal)
They can also carry out one 3rd year abroad in large universities:
-
Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh, Scotland)
-
Universidad de Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain)
-
YOU Bergakademie Freiberg (Freiberg, Germany)
-
Lulea Tekniska Universitet (Lulea, Sweden)

federal Polytechnic school of Lausanne FPSL (Lausanne, Switzerland)
-
University off Illinois (Urbana champaign, Illinois)
-
Colorado School off Mines (Golden delicious, Colorado)
-
and 34 American universities which take part in the program of exchange AE3.
-
Mac Gill University (Montreal, Quebec)
-
Polytechnic school of Montreal (Quebec)
and others…
Average wages of recruiting
