The 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of Architecture of Lyon (ENSA Lyon), in the past École of Architecture of Lyon (EAL) is located at Vaulx-in-Vellum, on the same campus as ENTPE.

It was built by Francoise-Helene Jourda and Gilles Perraudin (in 1987), for which they received the special mention of the Prix of the Money Square (the same year).

Lesson

License

The first cycle of the studies of architecture leads to the diploma of studies in architecture. It confers the rank of license of architecture. It must make it possible the student to acquire the bases:

1. of an architectural culture,

2. comprehension and practice of the architectural project by the knowledge and the experimentation of the concepts, methods and knowledge fundamental which is referred to it.

3. processes of design in their reports/ratios with various contexts and scales and in reference to uses, techniques and temporalities, within an explicit teaching framework.

It also allows him, thanks to the evaluation of its aptitudes, to direct itself towards other formations of higher education, in the respect of the particular conditions of access to these formations.

The first cycle is opened, in initial training, with the titular candidates of the baccalaureat, and those which justify either of a certificate of success to a diploma of access to academic works, or from a French title or abroad admitted in exemption or equivalence of the baccalaureat pursuant to a national regulation, or of the validation of their studies, track records or assets personal for the access to this level of studies.

Master

The second cycle of the studies of architecture leads to the diploma of State of architect. It confers the rank of master. It must allow the student:

1. to control: - A critical thought relating to the problems suitable for architecture. - Design of an architectural project in an autonomous way by the deepening of its concepts, methods and knowledge fundamental. - Comprehension criticizes processes of construction in their reports/ratios with various contexts and scales and in reference to the various uses, techniques and temporalities.

2. to prepare: - With the various modes of exercise and professional fields of architecture. - With research in architecture.

It can also lead worms of other formations of higher education, like masters in the respect of the particular conditions of access to these formations. The second cycle is accessible to the students who justify either of the diploma of studies in architecture, or from a French title or abroad admitted in exemption or equivalence of this diploma pursuant to a national regulation, or of the validation of their studies, track records or assets personal for the access to this level of studies.

The formation on the level master proposes to the students to specialize in various departments with the varied prerogatives:

  • architectural Heritage (HA) where it is question of the Patrimoine, its conservation, its valorization, its reconversion…
  • Stratégies for Sustainable development and Equitable (SDDE) with dominant the Sustainable development (Architecture set of themes and Sustainable development) or Mixité (Advanced Stratégies set of themes and Practices or SPA).
  • Cities, Territories, Landscapes (VTP) where the approaches architectural, urban and landscape are dependant within the Urban project.

Double course

The ENSAL makes it possible to follow a double formation architect-engineer, in partnership with Centrale Lyon, INSA Lyon or ENTPE. Reciprocally, it accommodates pupils of these schools within the framework of a double course engineer-architect.

Doctorate

Seek and Theory

  • ARIA: (Applications and Research in Data processing for Architecture) mixed unit of research with CNRS and the office of architectural and urban Research, present since 1988 within the school, this laboratory works with the realization and the improvement of numerical tools of returned 3D, in the optics of assistance to the design (CAD), of valorization of the inheritance and ambulation in real-time.
  • LAF: (Analysis laboratory of the Forms) existing under its current form since 1986 at the school, its work is directed towards the morphological, typomorphologic studies and on the theory of the architectural forms.
