Events

  • February 17th: Died of Jovien in Tyane, in Minor Asia (assassinated?). The senior officers, brought together in council, offer the empire to the Préfet of the court Salluste, a close friend of Julien, which refuses. The choice is made finally on Valentinien, Pannonien which is proclaimed by its troops. It joins his brother Valens.

  • Valentinien Ier settles with Paris. It creates the load of defender of the plebs. Its reign ensures the empire a few relative years of safety. Orthodoxe, it is tolerant out of religious matter.
