Events
- February 17th: Died of Jovien in Tyane, in Minor Asia (assassinated?). The senior officers, brought together in council, offer the empire to the Préfet of the court Salluste, a close friend of Julien, which refuses. The choice is made finally on Valentinien, Pannonien which is proclaimed by its troops. It joins his brother Valens.
- February 20th: Beginning of the reign of Valentinien I {{er}} in Occident, associated Roman Emperor > 375
- March 28th: Beginning of the reign of Valens in the East, associated Roman Emperor > 378
- Valentinien Ier settles with Paris. It creates the load of defender of the plebs. Its reign ensures the empire a few relative years of safety. Orthodoxe, it is tolerant out of religious matter.
- Valens (arien) starts the first persecution antipaïenne.
- the Roman Chef-lieu of the province E of the the Alpes-Maritimes is transferred to Embrun, the decline of Cimiez starts.
