33e regiment of colonial infantry

The 33e Régiment of Colonial Infantry is a unit of the French Army.

It is a regiment colonial of reserve, created in August 1914 and attached to the 3 {{E}} regiment of colonial infantry. The 33e regiment of colonial infantry is made up with Rochefort on Mer during the mobilization of 1914. It is dissolved on April 28th, 1919. Reconstituted the dissolved on September 2nd, 1939 on April 15th, 1940, from April 16th, 1940 to August 1st, 1940 it bears the name 33e colonial regiment mixed-Senegalese. January 1st, 1961 it bears the name of 33e regiment of marines garrison to Fort de France.

The Second world war

  • on May 1st, 1940, it is given on foot and becomes the 33e regiment of Senegalese mixed colonial infantry. Dissolved on August 1st, 1940.

After Second world war

  • It is reconstituted on January 1st, 1961 under the name 33e regiment of marines like regiment of tradition of the the Antilles - Guyana.
  • Since this date, it affirms the French presence in the Caribbean.
  • In 1998, it reorganizes and professionnalise within the framework of the recasting of the Army.
