301 diesel

Resuming the studies of the two power trolleys delivered to the MZA in 1935 and whose development had been blocked by the civil war, the MTM develops a small power trolley of 130 horses at the beginning of the year 1950. This one, studied in collaboration with ENASA is intended for the operations in the stations, deposits, industrial facilities or mining. A prototype known as Memé is built and officially presented to the Renfe at the time of the centenary of the MTM in 1955. Renfe accepts to test it, and in 1956, it course a total of 6153 kilometers on the domestic network. This trial period proves the solidity of the material, which could possibly replace many engines with vapor antédiluviennes still used with the operations. The Renfe estimates at the time the number of power trolleys necessary to 100. After having bought the prototype in 1960, the Renfe places a first order for 20 units on June 29th, 1961, supplemented by a second batch of 25 units on November 7th, 1961. The orders will stop there, the Renfe preferring to order more powerful machines of the series 10300

Design

The engines are provided by ENASA and the construction of the two batches distributed between three factories. At the time, the price of each power trolley rises with 2.711.000 Pesetas. Except for the MTM, the manufacturers will know great difficulties in the provisioning of the parts, and it will be necessary to extend the delivery periods.
  • 10101 then 301-001-4: MTM n° 13/1955
  • 10102 to 10113 then 301-002-2 to 301-013-9: Euskalduna n° 1 to 12/1963
  • 10114 to 10126 then 301-014-7 to 301-026-1: MACOSA n° 168 to 180/1962
  • 10127 to 10136 then 301-027-9 to 301-036-0: MTM n° 16 to 25/1961
  • 10137 to 10146 then 301-037-8 to 301-046-9: MTM n° 36 to 45/1962

The MTM also builds a few units for private companies between 1962 and 1971: a unit for its own needs, for SEAT, for Electromécanicas de Cordoba, for FECSA, two for Mugged up from Navarra, and five (in metric gauge track and reduced gauge) with Altos Hornos de Viscaya. Euskalduna also builds a power trolley of this type for its factory of Villaverde Bajo. The decoration envisaged by the schedule of conditions for the second batch is the same one as that of the prototype, namely entirely yellow case and red ends. This delivered will be modified in the course of manufacture, and changed for the green olive unified of the other series. At the end of the years 1960, a yellow band will come to be added to it

Service

At the origin, the power trolleys Same , quickly called Pegasines by the personnel, are assigned to the large deposits and workshops of the network: Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Orense, Oviede and Valence. They are then distributed between the various establishments under their dependence. One then finds them with Madrid - Fuencarral, Madrid - Atocha, Madrid - Cerro Negro, Alcazar de San Juan, Oviede, Orense, Salamanca, Seville - Santa Justa, Valence - Fuente of San Luis, Barcelona - Casa Antunez, Saragossa - Delicias, Miranda del Ebro, Irun and Santander. They ensure the internal operations in the deposits, and more rarely tow small convoys of a weight lower than 100 tons on short distances. New registration UIC their is applied as from 1971. The reorganization of the Renfe, with the beginning of the year 1980, mark the beginning of their decline. The first two units erased in 1986, the 10116 and 10140, are sold with the Transfesa which will use them on sortings of Hendaye and of Cerbère. Massive radiations start in 1987 and relate to a third of the series. Some machines remain in the deposits as tools, the image of the LOCMA of the SNCF and disappear from manpower whereas they are always in service. It is the case of the 10106 and 10108 of Madrid-Atocha (10109 being preserved for spare parts) or of the 10145 of Orense, only able to operate the Camellos in the enclosure of the deposit. Some are sold at private companies, like the 10103, bought by Cementos Tudela-Veguin in 1991. Another seems to be bought by ENASA. Prototype 10101 is preserved by association ASVAFER of Valladolid since 1997.
