2nd battalion of the 2nd regiment of Navy

The 2nd battalion of the 2nd regiment of Navy is a regiment of Infanterie based with Camp Lejeune, in North Carolina. Its nickname is “lord of the war (Warlord)”; it is composed of roughly nautical mile. This battalion belongs to the 2nd regiment of Navy and the 2nd marine Division. The 2/2 Navy is subordinated to the 26e unit expeditionary marinades (26e MEU).

History

The 2nd/2d Marines was formed with Haitian hat, Haiti on July 1st 1925 and then assigned with the 1st half-brigade having to defend Haiti. FROM 1925 with 1926, soldiers of the battalion were employed to alleviate the political disturbances in Haiti. During the period going from 1929 to 1933, the battalion helped with the construction of medical buildings, schools etc…. The second battalion was withdrawn from the army of active on January 1st, 1933. But it was " réactivé" January 14th, 1941. August 9th, 1942, at the time of the Bataille of Guadalcanal of the soldiers of the battalion unloaded in Tulagi. October 10th, the elements of the 2nd battalion took part in an attack against of the villages of Koilotamaria and Garabaus with Guadalcanal. In January 1943, the 2d battalion took part in the final attack with Guadalcanal against the Japanese resistant last. The unit accepted at the end of this operation the presidential quotation. As an element of the 2nd Division of navy, the 2/2 Navy unloaded and fought at the time of the battles of Tarawa. Japanese resistance was wild, and the initial losses of the battalion were heavy. During all the battle, the navy of the battalion was distinguished. The battalion saw itself again allotted the presidential quotation of unit for its heroic attack at Tarawa. The 2d/2d Marines fought with the Saipan, Tinian and with the Okinawa at the time of the Second world war. In September 1945, the battalion was deployed with Nagasaki. During July and June 1946, the battalion turned over to Lejeune camp in North Carolina. The battalion was decontaminated on November 18th, 1947.

After war

With the creation of NATO, the 2nd battalion of the 2nd regiment of Navy was recreated the October 20th 1949. The July 15th 1958, the battalion took part in the unloading with Beirut in order to fix the international airport of Beirut. After having achieved its mission, the battalion was redeployed on August 14th, 1958. In October 1962, during the crisis of the missiles of Cuba the 2nd battalion was deployed in territorial water of Cuba as an element of the blockade. The battalion returned at the end of the blockade. In February 1979, of the elements of the battalion were deployed with the the Azores. The December 4th, 1979, vis-a-vis the attacks of terrorist on citizens of the United States with Puerto Rico the battalion redeployed on the island and was withdrawn in April 1980.

The years 1990

In December 1990, attache with the 6th regiment of Marines, the unit was deployed in the south-west of Asia at the time of the First War of the Gulf for the participation in the Bouclier operation of the desert. The battalion leaves Asian south-west in April 1991. In August 1994, the battalion left for water of the Caribbean and in particular Haitian for the support for the democratic operations. September 20th, 1994, the battalion is again unloaded in Haiti until October to support the operations having to set up the democracy in the country. In July 1995, the 2nd battalion was attached to the 22nd unit expeditionary marinades and was sent to Monrovia to defend the American embassy. During February 1997. In December 1998, the Company Echo was sent in Republic Panama for security operations. In January 2000, the 2nd battalion is subordinated to the 26e unit expeditionary of Navy to be deployed in July and taken part in exercises in Tunisia, Turkey, and Croatia.

The years 2000

In July 2002, the soldiers of the battalion were deployed in Balkans to support the KFOR with the Kosovo. In December 2002, the battalion was sent to Djibouti, while the Company Echo plays a part in the blockade of the coasts of the Yemen. In March 2003, the battalion is deployed in Iraq to reinforce the forces taking part in Guerre in Iraq. The battalion left Iraq in May 2003. In autumn of 2003 the battalion was deployed in Iraq to support the new Iraqi government. The battalion fought with Al Mahmudiya, Al Kharma, like in the town of Fallujah. After its seven months deployment, the battalion has turned over to camp Lejeune in October 2004. The battalion was again sent in Iraq in July 2005 when it was attached to the 8th Regimental Combat TEAM. The battalion was deployed in the sector between Fallujah and Abu Ghraib. The soldiers of the battalion returned to Camp Lejeune in February 2006.
