January 4th: Election of the bishop of Rome Holy Eutychien or Eutychianus. > 283

Aurélien gives up the Dacie with the Carpes to be able to resist the attacks of the Goths which made alliances with the Carpes. The province is evacuated of its troops and part of the civil population. The emperor creates a new province of Dacie on Right Bank of the Danube, with Serdica (Sofia) for capital.
- January: Aurélien is on the point of going towards Asia to take again the Mésopotamie with Persians. Victim of a plot warped in its entourage, it is assassinated in Cenophrurium in Thrace.
- February 3rd: The Roman Senate, requested by the legions to choose an emperor, prefers to rely on the soldiers.
- September 25th: Tacit, 75 years old, is named emperor. The Senate proclaims the restoration of the republic. Tacite overcomes the Goths in Cilicie, then dies either assassinated by its soldiers after six months of reign (276), or of the fever with Tarse.
