Account
Last the against-the-watch of this Vuelta, the day before the arrival in Madrid, is long only of twenty kilometers. A too weak distance to carry out consequent variations. Denis Menchov thus does not seem not threatened with general classification. On the other hand, any open remainder for the podium since Carlos Sastre, Samuel Sanchez and Cadel Evans, respectively 2nd, 3rd and 4th at the beginning, is held in 56 seconds. Maxime Monfort will try him to fill the 13 seconds which separate it from Carlos Barredo to be the first Belgian in signal 10 of Vuelta since Johan Bruyneel. The first time of reference is carried out by Magnus Backstedt, then beaten by the specialists in the solitary effort who are Santos Gonzalez and Stef Clement. Young Dutch carries out a 22 minutes and 25 seconds time. The fight between Monfort and Barredo turns to the advantage of the Spaniard, who finishes just behind Clement (at 2 seconds), 12 seconds in front of Monfort.
Samuel Sanchez is the first to beat Clement. Evans and Sastre are behind, Menchov is intercalated between Sanchez and Clement. The 19 seconds in advance of Sanchez on Evans make it possible the Spaniard to go up on the podium.
