- January 1st: dissolution of UGC Fox Distribution, European Grouping of economic interest between UGC and 20th Century Fox.
- January 4th: France and the United States publishes their figures of frequentation for the year 2004. More than 196 million entries and a rise of 12% compared to 2003 in the Hexagon; on the other hand, the American rooms recorded 1,5 billion entries, that is to say a fall of 1,2%.
