Sunday February 19th - Cantonal elections in Basle-Countryside. The five outgoing advisers of State are re-elected. It is about Elsbeth Schneider (PDC) Eduard Belser (PS), Peter Schmid (PS), Hans Fünfschilling (PRD) and Andreas Koellreuter (PRD).

Thursday March 9th - the group Von Roll announces the closing of the Monteforno steel-works to Bodio.
Sunday March 12th - federal Votings. The people reject, by: 866107 not (50,9%) against: 836215 yes (49,1%), the popular initiative for a competitive and respectful country agriculture of the environment .
- federal Votings. The people reject, by: 1078434 not (63,5%) against: 620918 yes (36,5%), the decree on the dairy economy.
- federal Votings. The people reject, by: 1126721 not (66,4%) against: 569950 yes (33,6%), modification of the federal law on agriculture.

Sunday April 2nd - Cantonal elections in Zurich. Eric Honegger (PRD), Ernst Buschor (PDC), Ernst Homberger (PRD), Moritz Leuenberger (PS), Hans Hoffmann (UDC), Rita Fuhrer (UDC) and Verena Diener (the Greens) are elected with the first ballot.
- Cantonal elections in Tessin. Marco Borradori (LEGA), Marina Masoni Pelloni (PRD), Giuseppe Buffi (PRD), Alex Pedrazzini (PDC) and Pietro Martinelli (PS) are elected with the cantonal Government.
- Cantonal elections in Lucerne. Klaus Fellmann (PDC), Brigitte Mürner-Gilli (PDC), Ulrich Fässler (PRD), Kurt Meyer (PDC), Anton Schwingruber (PDC) and max Pfister (PRD) are elected with the cantonal Government at the time of the first ballot.

Saturday October 7th - On the federal Place with Bern: 12000 antinuclear demonstrators ask for the immediate suspension of the French and Chinese atomic tests. They request the Swiss authorities to put a term at any military and nuclear trade with these two States.
Sunday October 22nd - Federal elections. The PS leaves victorious the renewal of the room of the people. It gains 12 seats and, with 54 mandates, it forms the most important group of the National council. UDC gains 4 seats (29 elected officials), PRD gains 1 seat (45 elected officials) and PDC loses 2 seats (34 elected officials). the Greens and the small parts are the losers of these federal elections.
