- January 17th: Georges Pompidou announces into private that he would be possibly candidate with the presidential one.

- February 3rd: Alain Poher rejects the reform of the Senate.
- February 12th: The France is withdrawn until new order of the UEO.
- March 22nd: The government decides to limit to 110 km/h the speed on 1.600 km of Trunk roads, on an experimental basis.
- April 27th: Referendum in France: Rejection of the reform project of the areas and the Senate by 53,17% of the votes cast.
- April 28th: Charles de Gaulle resigns. Alain Poher, President of the Senate, takes over temporarily the duties.
- June 1st: The divided left is eliminated with the first tower of the presidential one.
- June 15th: France: presidential Election, Georges Pompidou is elected with 58,2% of the votes compared with 41,8% for Alain Poher. Its presidency is marked by an official voluntarism, where the State develops, successfully, a policy of industrial modernization.
- June 21st: Jacques Chaban-Delmas Prime Minister, Valery Giscard d'Estaing returns to finances.
- June 26th: Achille Peretti is elected President of the National Assembly.
