- January 15th a HLM in construction crumbles Lefebvre boulevard in Paris in XVe: more than 15 died and a score of casualties.
- January 27th: Recognition of the communist China.
- Law of the July 10th programming the suppression of the department S of the the Seine and the Seine-et-Oise to the profit of the creation of the departments of the Yvelines, the the Essonne, the Hauts-de-Seine, the Seine-Saint-Denis, the the Valley-of-Marne and the Val-d'Oise. The coming into effect of the law is fixed at January 1st 1968.
- August 10th: The birth of the S.E.A.T.M. (Service of Study and Tourist Installation of the Mountain) devotes the beginning of the “Plan Snows” French which will allow the creation of the integrated stations known as of “third generation”.
- December 19th: Transfer of ashes of Jean Moulin to the Pantheon, celebrates speech of André Malraux.
