Events

  • January 7th: The army receives the full powerss with Algiers.
  • March 25th: Signature of the the Treaty of Rome: creation, at January 1st, 1958, of the European Economic community (the EEC) and of Euratom. the process of integration of the European countries takes a new dimension with this alliance gathering Belgium, the Federal Republic of Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
  • May 21st: Fall of the Gouvernement Guy Mollet, put in minority by the Room on its financial program.
  • June 12th: Beginning of the Government Maurice Bourgues-Maunoury until the September 30th.
  • June 13rd: A series of catastrophic risings affects the rivers of the internal Alps (Arc, Durance, Guil and Ubaye in particular. The Queyras is evacuated.
  • August 12th: “Operation 20%”: disguised devaluation of the French franc.
  • September 30th: Fall of the Gouvernement Maurice Bourges-Maunoury.
  • November 6th: Beginning of the Strong Felix Government until the April 15th 1958. After five weeks of crisis, the government of Felix Gaillard obtains the confidence of the National Assembly.
  • November 12th: The Parliament renews the law on the special capacities in Algérie and metropolis.

Economy & company

  • In Lorraine iron-bearing, in the South of Thionville, the commune of Saint-Nicolas-in-Forest is made up. It is especially made up of working cities.
  • Installation of the supplementary pensions of paid (1957 - 1961).
