Events

January 5th: The National Assembly adopts the plan Mayer of financial cleansing, envisaging the readjustment of the wages and the prices, the reduction in the public expenditure and an exceptional taking away on the high incomes.
January 19th: Inauguration of the Dam Génissiat, on the Rhone. The powerplant will be most important of Western Europe.
January 25th: Devaluation of the French franc of more than 44% and blocking of the tickets.
March 1st: Reopening of the border enters the Spain and the France.
March 17th: Treaty of Brussels: Western military alliance (France, the United Kingdom, the Benelux countries).
March 26th: Foundation of the FEN (Federation of state education).
April 12th: Foundation of the CGT-FO (General confederation of work - Working force) by the partisans of Leon Jouhaux after the scission of December 1947.
In April, new wave of strikes in France.
May 25th: Inauguration of the news air terminal of Orly.
June 16th: Foundation of the company “Air France” in the form of mixed company.
July 19th: The Socialists cause the resignation of the cabinet Schuman to which they are opposed in connection with the Laïcité and of the Indo-China.
July 26th: New Government Andre Marie (radical), until the August 28th.
August 25th: Birth of the Movement of Peace.
August 28th: Fall of the Gouvernement Andre Marie.
September: Exit of the Citroen 2CV.
September 5th: New Government Robert Schuman (2).
September 7th: Fall of the Gouvernement Robert Schuman (2).
September 11th: New Government Henri Queuille (1), until the October 5th 1949.
September - November: vagueness of violent strikes.
October 4th: Burden with the minors organized by the CGT.
October 11th: The government points out reservists.
October 16th: The teams of safety having been removed in the mines, the government makes occupy the wells. Of the confrontations violent ones with the strikers follow very, with Saint-Etienne, Carmaux, Montceau-the-Mines then Alès at the end of the month.
November 29th: The CGT calls with the resumption of work, after more than one month of confrontations which will have made two died.

Economy & company

the Inflation assembles to 59%.
Dévaluations of the franc, 80% then 17%.
Within the framework of the Marshall plan, France receives an American help until in 1952.
Creation of the company “Usinor” by the fusion of “Denain-Auzin” and the “Forging mills and Steel-works of North and the East”.
