  • January: Startup with New York of Mark I, electromechanical Computer conceived by Howard $aiken, able to carry out very fast astronomical calculations.
  • April: Beginning of the construction of the ENIAC, first digital electronic computer, by John Grist Brainer and his team with the M oore School off Electrical Engineering , in Pennsylvania.
  • August 24th: Integration of the British physicists in the American teams of design of the atomic bomb.
  • December: Brought into service of the first operational electronic computer, Colossus, conceived by Alan Turing, which will make it possible to decipher the coded messages of the Germans (see Enigma (machine)).
  • Theory of the formation of the Planet S by Weizsäcker.
