- January 1st: 80 children perish in the fire of a cinema with Paisley, close to Glasgow, in Scotland.
- March 31st: The “code of production” or “Hays code” (of the name of its craftsman William H. Hays), resulting from the mediations between associations, the churches and American cinema industry is ratified by the Board of management of Motion Picture Producers and Distributers off America (MPPDA). This code prohibits employment in American films of certain words, of dialogs, situations being able to attack the moralities. These texts will govern the profession until 1966.
- December 11th: Jean Chiappe, prefect of police prohibits the projection of the Golden age of Luis Buñuel and orders the seizure of all the copies.
