- February 24th: Victoire allied on the Anchor (Somme): the Germans beat a retreat in front of the British.
- March 17th: Following the resignation of the Minister for the war Lyautey, the government Aristide Briand resigns.
- March 20th: Alexandre Ribot president of the Council.
- April 2nd: Entry in war of the United States at the side of the Allies.
- April 9th: the British launch the offensive in Artois, between Arras and Lens.
- April 16th: Beginning of the offensive Bubble of the Way of the Ladies.
- In May, strike movements in France (May-June).
- May 4th: Failure of the offensive Bubble with the Way of the Ladies.
- May 15th: The general Pétain replaces the general Nivelle as French commander-in-chief.
- May 20th: Repression of the mutinies of the French Army.
- June 4th: The Room votes confidence with the government for the continuation of the war until the restitution of the Alsace-Lorraine.
- June 30th: Unloading with Saint-Nazaire of the first American troops .
- September 12th: Paul Painlevé president of the Council, without socialist participation: rupture of the Sacred union.
- October 15th: the Dutch Subdued Hari, condemned to died for espionage in favor of Germany, is shot with the Fort of Vincennes.
- November 15th: The Painlevé cabinet is reversed by the Room.
- November 16th: The radical Georges Clémenceau president of the Council for the second time (end in 1920). Censure, drives out with “embusqués”, visits with the Tranchées.
- December: Arrest of Joseph Caillaux for “espionage and treason”.
