- January 1st: Coming into effect of the Income tax.
- January 9th: German offensive in Champagne.
- February 21st: Beginning of the Battle of Verdun (fine the December 11th).
- March 16th: The French Minister for the war Gallieni resigns for health reasons. The general Castlings, Minister for the war.
- April 9th: Failure of the German general offensive on the face of Verdun.
- April 27th: A law creates a diploma of “dead for France” delivered with each man killed with the combat, to recall that their sacrifice was not vain.
- June 22nd - July 27th: Control Parliament with the armies.
- In June, first secret committee with the House of Commons in France.
- July 1st: Beginning of the Battle of the Sum .
- July 5th: First number of the newspaper the Duck connected .
- August 15th: Creation with Marly of the first center of instruction for tank, directed by Jean-Baptiste Eugene Estienne.
- December 12th:
- Fine of the Battle of Verdun.
- Rehandling of the government Briand (president of the Council). The government is tiny room to 10 members instead of 23. The Socialists are isolated government.
- December 13rd: The general Lyautey, Minister for the war.
- December 25th: The general Joseph Joffre is named Marshal of France, and is replaced by Robert Nivelle with the head of the armies.
