Events

  • January: André Citroen obtains an ordering of a million shell of 75. It installs its factories Quai of Javel to Paris.
  • February 16th: Second allied offensive in Champagne to prevent any transfer of German troops in Russia.
  • February 20th: Bombardment of Rheims.
  • February 22nd: The general Louis Loyzeau de Grandmaison is mortally wounded 1 km from Soissons, of a glare of shell in the head
  • March 16th: End of the battles of Champagne. Failure of the attempt at French Champagne opening (February-March).
  • March 21st: A Zeppelin bombards Paris.
  • May 9th: French offensive in Artois. Failure ( June).
  • August 26th, France: The Room votes the new military appropriations.
  • September 25th: Second Champagne battle, one of the three great Franco-British offensives launched simultaneously on the Western face. The 29 the general attack is stopped, it will leave 138.576 men out of combat, it is a failure. October 6th the engagements will begin again for ten days in order to rectify the “asperities” of the face, especially towards Tahure.
  • October 13rd: Resignation of the Minister for the War Delcassé following the failure of the negotiations with the Bulgaria. The president of the Council Rene Viviani takes over temporarily the duties.
  • October 16th: Requisition of corns and flours.
  • October 29th: Resignation of the president of the Viviani Council. Aristide Briand President of the Council (Government Aristide Briand (5)).
  • November 25th: Issue of the loan of the victory (revenue with 5%).
  • December: Tensions between the government and the staff.
  • December 2nd: The general Joffre is named by decree commander-in-chief of all the French Armies in Europe.

  • Disappearance of the Gazette , the first French weekly magazine (founded in 1631).
  • Floatation of a national loan with 5% to finance the war.
  • inflation assembles to 20%.
  • Obligations and loans of National defense.
