18th stage of the Tour de France 2005
The 18th stage of the Tour de France 2005 between Albi and Mende took place the July 21st 2005 on a distance of 189 km. It is a stage rather adapted to the runners fighters with an end of the road in altitude. The finishing line is located, commen in 1995 on the track of the Aérodrome of Mende - Brenoux.
To 50e km a group of 10 runners, not positioned in general classifications, manages to take the broad one. To 25 km of the arrival the group has an advance of fifteen minutes on the group.
To the rise of before last top, the Coast of Chabrit, Carlos da Cruz manage to outdistance the group of head and to precede them of a score of seconds but it is taken again shortly after. Close to the arrival it is Axel Merckx, Cédric Vasseur and Marcos Serrano which manages to outdistance the other runners and it is finally the Spanish Marcos Serrano of the team cyclist Liberty Seguros which manages to finish the first the stage as a recluse followed at 27 seconds by Vasseur and Merckx.
With the back, under the pressure of Ivan Basso it is Michael Rasmussen which is outdistanced leaders of general classification. Jan Ullrich approaches the podium thus, having begun again 35 seconds on Rasmussen, and with before against-the-watch day before individual of which it is one of the specialists.
