18th regiment of infantry of line
The 18th regiment of infantry of line is a French regiment created at the end of the Ancien Mode starting from battalions of the Régiment of Auvergne, under the name of regiment of Gâtinais. It is distinguished during the Campagne from Italy (1796-97), in particular with Cassano, Soncino, Calcinato and the attack of the lines in front of Turin.
Creation and various denominations
- 1703 : there exists a Régiment of Gâtinais in 1703, whose Colonel is Philippe Charles of Fare, which succeeds the Viscount of Poudenx and is used with the seats as Verceil, of Lvrée, of Vérue and the Mirandole.
- 1776 : creation from 2nd and 4th battalions of the Regiment of Auvergne under the name of regiment of Gâtinais .
- 1781 : famous regiment Royal-Auvergne .
- 1791 : famous 18th regiment of infantry .
- 1796: 18th half-brigade of infantry of line becomes the , formed starting from the following units:
- 5th half-brigade of battle (1st battalion of the 3 {{E}} regiment of infantry, 1st battalion of volunteers of the Doubs and 4th battalion of volunteers of the Seine-Lower )
