- March 17th: The Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Cambric Grâce (Northern) is set up in minor basilica by the Pape Leon XIII.
- April 30th: Jules Méline is elected president of the Council. Convinced republican, it forms a moderate cabinet and continues a policy favorable to the industrialists and the peasants.

- September 30th: Franco-Italian convention: the Italy recognizes French protectorate on the Tunisia.

Business Dreyfus
- In March, interception of the telegram (“small blue”) addressed by Schwartzkoppen to Esterhazy.
- In July, the lieutenant-colonel Georges Picquart notes the similarity of the writing of the form and that of Esterhazy, it alerts its superiors in vain.
- November 6th: Bernard Lazare publishes in Brussels “ a miscarriage of justice, the truth on the business Dreyfus ”.
- In December, a new investigation leads to nona place in favor of Esterhazy.
