June 24th: The O Canada is sung for the first time. It will become the national anthem.
- September 1st: Under the terms of the Imperial Order in Council of the July 31st 1880, all British territories and possessions in North America which were not integrated yet into Canada, and all the adjacent islands with these territories and possessions, except the colony of Newfoundland and its dependences, are annexed to the Canada.
