  • January 14th. the United States, California. Opening of the line Los Angeles - Wilmington, first railway line in the south of California. (Los Angeles & San pedro railroad company)

  • May 10th: to the the United States, junction with Promontory Point (Utah) of the first transcontinental Railroad enters the companies Central Pacific, started from Sacramento (California) and Union Pacific coming from Omaha (Iowa).
  • May 15th. the United States. California: opening of the section Sacramento - Galt of the line of Sacramento with Oakland (Central Pacific)
  • May 31st. France: inauguration of the section Auch - Mirande of the railroad of Agen with Tarbes (Company of the South)
  • July 8th. Algeria: Opening of the section Bou Medfa - Affreville of the railroad of Algiers with Oran and junctions (PLM, Algerian network)
  • August 4th. the United States. California: opening of the section Galt - Lodi of the line of Sacramento with Oakland (Central Pacific)
  • August 14th. the United States. California: opening of the section Lodi - Stockton of the line Sacramento-Oakland (Central Pacific)
