Baseball

  • March 15th. First match of baseball in the USA implying a professional club: Cincinnati Red Stockings. This choice makes it possible the club to recruit the best players and the results are not made wait: in this March 15th, Antioch College is swept 41 to 7.
  • the Cincinnati Red Stockings are invited by the Pacific Base-Ball Convention to carry out a round with San Francisco. The completion of the railway line transcontinental allows from now on these long displacements. The Red Stockings dispute 5 matches in the area of Bay for as much of victory. Cincinnati concedes 22 points with these Californian adversaries but do not mark less than 289 points, that is to say 58 per match on average!
  • the Brooklyn Atlantics gain the 13th championship of baseball of the NABBP with 40 victories, 6 null and 2 defeats.
  • November 5th. End of the season of baseball in the USA. The Cincinnati Red Stockings, unconquered in 57 matches, are the undeniable team of the year. These pioneers of baseball pro evolved/moved in front of 200.000 spectators for an about sixty matches and traversed nearly 20.000 km!
