  • France: creation of the SYMA (Mixed trade-union the Mediterranean the Alps) gathering local government agencies to take again the line Nice/Worthy-the-Baths of the Railroads of Provence, whose State wishes to be disengaged.
  • February 18th. the United States, California: creation with San-Francisco of the Los Angeles & San pedro Railroad company
  • August 20th. the United Kingdom: several coaches of Paraffin left without monitoring descend a slope and enter in collision with the Irish Mail , an express train connecting London to the Welsh coast . The explosion of the paraffin coaches caused the fire of four cars travellers and death in a few seconds of 32 passengers, is the worst rail crash with the the United Kingdom until there.
  • 1 {{er}} November. Algeria: opening of the section Relizane - Saint-Denis-of-Sig the - Oran of the line of Algiers with Oran and junction (PLM, Algerian network)
  • December 10th, 1868: inauguration of the railway line of Wassy with Saint-Dizier (Haute-Marne, south of Champagne), line carried out by an independent small firm wasseyenne, the Co of the Railroad of Wassy with Saint-Dizier, to which the current Railroads of Blaise-and-DER (52130 Wassy) are to some extent the heirs.
